HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAMIE VAN DOREN!!!

The always delightful Mamie Van Doren was born February 6, 1931 as Joan Olander in Rowena, South Dakota.  A queen of the juvenile delinquent/rock and roll/exploitation world, she started her career as an usherette in a Hollywood movie theater and soon got some bit parts and won some beauty contests. It was after being crowned Miss Palm Springs that she was discovered by Howard Hughes and her career really took off! To celebrate Mamie’s birthday we’ve got a double dose of Van Doren here on Beta Max TV!

First, Mamie appears on an episode of THE JACK BENNY PROGRAM from 1961. Mamie sings a song with Benny regular Dennis Day and plays Jack’s wife in the “Death Row” skit,  Then, it a fine example of cheezy sci-fi with VOYAGE TO THE PLANET OF PREHISTORIC WOMEN.  Mamie plays the leader of an ancient race of beautiful telepathic Venusian women who ate secretly aware – and not to happy about – a group of Earth astronauts who have landed on their planet.
